Hudepohl 14k Brewery Run

25 Sep

Hello everyone!

Today I would like to share with you the FANTASTIC event I participated in this weekend… The Hudepohl 14k Brewery Run.

For those of you not in Cincinnati and wondering “What the hell is Hudepohl?”, it is one of the oldest breweries in Cincinnati. It was started by  Ludwig Hudepohl II in 1885 and is now owned by Christian-Moerlein Brewing Company. They make great reasonably priced beer. (the amber lager is one of my go-to beers)

Anyway, the 14k brewery run is “the race that thinks its a party”. You run the 14 km race (approx. 8.5 miles) and at the end they give you 2 free draft beers, a personalized pint glass, and a skyline cheese coney. Not to mention a sweet bottle opening race medal! They had assorted other free food, a live band named “Just add beer” and other activities. The party took place at the Christian-Moerlein Lager House (MOTR) in their Uberdome which was appropriate because that day also marked the start of Oktoberfest!

As for the beer I had there:

Christian-Moerlein; Oktoberfest  – Great example of an Oktoberfest beer. My second favorite after Hofbräuhaus München’s Oktoberfest. This beer just screams fall and if you can get ahold of it this October I would definitely check it out.

Hudepohl; Amber Lager – a great Cincinnati classic. My beer of choice at Cincinnati sporting events. 1, because it is really good. 2, because usually it is a great deal. Deep red color and tastes better than any other red lager/ale I’ve ever had. If amber ales are your thing, go with Hudepohl.

All-in-all The 14k and accompanying party was tons of fun and I suggest doing it next year, I know I will!

PS: for those interested my time was a lightning fast 1:36:49 (11 min 08 sec mile).
